TX Systems FAQ

Q:Why doesn't TX have a 2-year unconditional warranty on the drivers like other Yorkville speaker lines?
A:TX, unlike Elite, Pulse and Performance, must compete with 100% processed cabinets which do not have passive crossovers. Although we have included a very approximate passive protection network in TX enclosures, it is felt in touring and installation circles that anything more restrictive than this is detrimental to the enclosure's performance. In fact a few purists insist on no passive protection at all.

As usual, we have opted to satisfy as many people as possible, however the chances for damaged drivers are definitely higher with a system, which must be processed. For example, not all TX enclosures are going to be used with the matching TX processor or the right amplifiers or the right wiring. And even when everything is done 100% right, the chances for driver damage are still high because of the applied power levels. Comparing a TX4 to an EF508 for instance, the total applied power is 900 Watts vs. 500 Watts. Does this mean that the drivers in a TX4 can handle nearly double the power of the ones in the Elite cabinet? Of course not, but to function in the touring speaker market you must maximize amp headroom in order to maintain clarity at maximum sound-pressure levels. This results in higher performance but it also means that an otherwise harmless transient can blow drivers.

We certainly want to support TX as closely as possible to the way we cover our other products and will, as a rule, consider any first-time dealer claim involving damaged TX drivers which did not have a manufacturing defect, assuming the right processor, amps and configuring were used. We hope that our customers will understand that TX is an ultra-high-performance line and, rather like a racing car, comes with a warranty, which takes such demands into account.

Q:The TX manual says that I should have one amp driving each frequency band of two cabinets. It never really says I can or can't run four cabinets off one amp. Is this possible?
A:We do not recommend running more than one woofer (except for the TX8 which has two) or one horn off the amps. Otherwise the load impedances and subsequently gain & power levels would be wrong and the processors would calibrate incorrectly, if at all. On the other hand, if you wanted to substitute one AP6040 for two, bridged AP4020s to power a pair of TX9Ss, that would be fine because the power/gain level would be approximately the same in either case. Actually, if you look at the Required Power Per Channel chart in the Supplement section of the manual, it shows the amount of power (gain) that the Sense feature in the processor expects to see.

Q:I have a TX8/TX9S system and an Omni Drive processor. Could you please give me the correct Omni Drive settings.
A:These are suggested settings only, simulating some of the TX8P processor's functions. Gain and equalization may need to be adjusted with respect to various venues.
