'Namgis choose Unity for First Nation's Big House

Three weeks ago, we decided that it was time to replace our inadequate PA System in our First Nation's Big House. We are located in Alert Bay, British Columbia and our community of 800 residents relies on its Big House for most ceremonial and cultural events. Built 5 years ago to replace the old building destroyed by fire, it was in all other respects "state-of-the-art". It was imperative that the new PA System be top notch also.

I contacted Dave Dlugos of Victoria, BC and, relying on his 30+ years experience with Pro audio and loudspeaker design, he recommended Yorkville Unity speakers for our application. After determining that Long and McQuade, Victoria, was able to supply us with 4 U15's in the short time we had available, we proceeded to re-wire the building with dual runs of Cat5 to take the signal from our 250W amp the 80ft to the speaker locations.

The location of the U15's in the room (80' X 90' with VERY large cedar house-posts holding up the roof) was chosen for the best available balance between coverage and invisibility.

From the first test, through the weekend-long Potlatch (over a year in the planning) the U15's performed brilliantly. The crystal clear sound, even with the unusual, sometimes guttural sounds of the Kwakwa'la language, was commented on by most people attending the event.

I have attached a few photos of the U15's in place and one of the Potlatch in progress. I hope you enjoy them and will tell your people who designed and built these wonderful speakers how much we appreciate the quality and performance of the U15's.

Best Regards
